The human figure is freeing to draw - especially from life. I have found chalk, pen and ink, colored pencil, graphite, and charcoal all produce satisfying results. Charcoal and loose graphite are my choice for live sessions. Unlike so many of the organisms I illustrate, members of our species are capable and willing to hold a singular pose for extended time and lack hard angularity. I find the process requires so much concentration that it calms the mind.
